Katherine McNamara plays Clary Fray in the upcoming ‘The Mortal Instruments’ TV series

Posted by The Fandom Frenzy on

Last March, ABC Family has confirmed of its new TV Series Shadowhunters based on The Mortal Instruments novels. The Mortal Instruments is the third series chronologically of a proposed five in The Shadowhunter Chronicles that includes City of Bones, City of Ashes, City of Glass, City of Fallen Angels, City of Lost Souls and May's City of Heavenly Fire.

Shadowhunters becomes the latest adaptation of the franchise. In 2013, Screen Gems produced City of Bones starring Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower as Clary and Jace, respectively. Constantin Films had plans to turn the fantasy series into a feature film franchise but the idea was called off after City of Bones grossed just US$90 million worldwide.

In a press release, ABC Family’s president Tom Ascheim said, "Shadowhunters is a big, epic saga that will resonate with viewers who come to ABC Family for the Harry Potter, Hunger Games and Twilight franchises. A New York Times best-seller for 122-consecutive weeks, with over 35 million copies in print worldwide, Shadowhunters is the perfect story to share with our audience.”

The filming of Shadowhunters begins this May in Toronto and the TV series is set to begin its 13-episode first season soon. With a series of books lined up, Shadowhunters might also be sustained into multiple seasons!

This just announced! Katherine McNamara is tapped to play Clary Fray, the leading lady in Shadowhunters. McNamara will appear in the upcoming adaptation of The Maze Runner sequel The Scorch Trials as Sonya.

McNamara will be joining other cast members of Shadowhunters previously announced:

Dominic Sherwood as Jace

Alberto Rosende as Simon

Emeraude Toubia as Isabelle Lightwood

What are you thoughts of the cast? Are you excited for the upcoming Shadowhunters TV series?
