Harry Potter and the Cursed Child script book will release on July 31, 2016

Posted by The Fandom Frenzy on

Potter fans! The long-awaited and hoped-for news is here: your wish for the eighth book has been granted! Scholastic and Little, Brown Book Group will publish the script of "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" as a book on Harry's (and J.K Rowling's!) birthday: July 31, 2016!

The script book will be published in print and digital (via Pottermore) editions simultaneously after the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play’s world premiere in London’s West End, and will be available in two editions.

The first edition will be called the Special Rehearsal Edition, which is a version of the play script at the time of the play’s preview performance. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child opens for previews several weeks before its official first performance on Saturday, 30 July. As further rehearsal and transition to performing in front of live audiences may produce changes to the script, this version will later be replaced by a Definitive Collector’s Edition.

Here is the full synopsis for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child:

"The eighth story. Nineteen years later.

It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes darkness comes from unexpected places."

Here is the current (not final) concept art for the cover of the book:

On July 21, 2007, the seventh book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was published. Did you remember the day you lined up for the midnight book release? Guess we all get to experience it again this July! Ah, the feels!
